Milan officially ushered in Igli Tare on Monday, and his first transfer market-related summit was with the Roma hierarchy to discuss Tammy Abraham and Alexis Saelemaekers, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Giallorossi seem keener on keeping the Belgian winger permanently, but the counterparty has appreciated the striker’s contribution and could retain him under the right circumstances.
The first summit between Milan and Roma wasn’t decisive, but the teams will stay in touch to examine a solution. The Rossoneri are waiting for a formal offer from Manchester City for Tijjani Reijnders.
As for the coach, their choice depends on situations beyond their control. They’d quickly swoop in for Vincenzo Italiano if he and Bologna didn’t agree to a renewal. Plus, they are behind Napoli and Inter in the race to appoint Massimiliano Allegri.
At this stage, Thiago Motta is the most concrete fallback. They pursued him before Juventus snapped him up last summer. Sergio Conceiçao hasn’t been formally informed that he’s out, and Tare likes him, but his permanence remains unlikely.
It’s too early for them to decide on the players, as that will come after the gaffer and based upon his indications. Roma were trying to be slick. Keeping Saelemaekers would be a no-brainer with Motta and would come in handy for a few other tacticians. They don’t need both Luka Jovic and Abraham, and the latter is too expensive to be a deputy and isn’t better than Santiago Gimenez.
The former Juventus manager needs a much quieter environment and a multi-year project to have a shot at succeeding. They aren’t the right team for that.
