Milan mayor Beppe Sala hit back at Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta over his recent statement about the ongoing San Siro saga.

Replying to Marotta’s words via FCInterNews, Sala opened up the possibility of the Milan clubs building a new stadium away from the city.

AC Milan and Inter have grown frustrated with the local authorities amid protracted negotiations over the purchase of the San Siro.

Despite putting in massive effort to arrange the deal, the agreement doesn’t seem close.

Indeed, talks have hit repeated setbacks, leading the Serie A giants to consider alternative options.

One such would see Milan and Inter leave the city and design a new stadium elsewhere.

Although it would be a significant blow for everyone involved, the authorities might force them to pursue other sites.

Furthermore, Beppe Marotta warned the Milan City Council of such a turn of events after Inter’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo last night.

“This is a decision that will affect the future of Milan, and we must judge it in the long term,” Sala confirmed.

“But I don’t feel like saying anything more to anyone.

“This matter exhausts me too. However, I feel I have a clear conscience because I put all my competence and determination into it.”

Then, he responded to Marotta’s warning.

“I don’t consider this a threat,” Sala claimed. “Clearly, it is very possible that the teams leave Milan. But I believe that at this point, the Council must decide in full autonomy.

“I have a clear conscience and have done everything that needed to be done.

“In making their decision, the councilors must evaluate a number of things. And clearly at the core is the contract and how they drew it up.
