Milan wasted a glorious chance to end their winless away drought against Juventus in Serie A, drawing 0-0 at the Allianz Stadium. Despite creating more chances than their fierce rivals, the Rossoneri couldn’t convert their opportunities, leaving the points evenly shared.
Brimming with confidence after winning five consecutive matches in all competitions, Milan took the field seeking their first league win in Turin since May 2023. Interestingly, Massimiliano Allegri’s men had since gone four successive meetings with Juventus without scoring in the top flight.
Despite creating several presentable opportunities to break that ominous trend, Milan couldn’t find the net at the Allianz Stadium. Santiago Gimenez missed two chances in the first half before drawing a second-half penalty. However, Christian Pulisic took the spot-kick all wrong, sending the ball well over the crossbar.
Meanwhile, Mike Maignan made a fabulous save to parry away Federico Gatti’s close-range attempt three minutes after the break.
When it looked like the uneventful Serie A classic would offer nothing more in terms of excitement, Luka Modric set Rafael Leao one-on-one with Michele Di Gregorio. Yet, the Portuguese winger failed to hit the ball cleanly, allowing the Italian goalkeeper to make a comfortable save.
As a result, Milan relinquished their four-game winning streak in Serie A and will spend the international break two points adrift of Napoli and Roma. Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.
Milan (3-5-2)
Mike Maignan – 9/10
Juventus didn’t create much, but the Frenchman had to make one of the best saves of the season to thwart Gatti’s volley from just a few yards out.
Fikayo Tomori – 7/10
Unfazed by his recent fitness woes, the former Chelsea defender did a phenomenal job keeping Kenan Yildiz far away from Maignan’s goal.
Matteo Gabbia – 7/10
Another convincing performance from the academy graduate, who never put his foot wrong, making light work of Jonathan David. Safe and risk-free in possession.
Strahinja Pavlovic – 8/10
In addition to another energetic defensive showing, the Serbian center-back nearly picked up an assist. Unfortunately, Gimenez failed to turn home his excellent cross.
Davide Bartesaghi – 7/10
Pervis Estupinan’s suspension handed the Milan youngster a chance to prove his worth on a big occasion, and he grabbed it with both hands, delivering a superb all-round performance.
Adrien Rabiot – 6/10
Though he did have much to offer in the creative department, the Frenchman worked tirelessly off the ball and provided valuable balance in midfield. Worked his socks off against his former club.
Luka Modric – 7/10
Apart from a couple of minor errors, the veteran superstar enjoyed another remarkable night in Serie A, pulling all the strings in midfield with his trademark passing and vision. Leao’s wastefulness cost him an assist.
Youssouf Fofana – 6/10
The box-to-box midfielder was the invisible force driving Milan’s engine room, breaking up play, covering ground, and fighting valiantly for every possession.
Alexis Saelemaekers – 5/10
The Belgian wingback fared well defensively, but he was nearly anonymous going forward, doing virtually nothing to contribute to Milan’s attacking play.
Christian Pulisic – 2/10
The USMNT star didn’t have a great game, yet he decided to take the penalty, which proved a calamitous decision as he skied the ball over the bar.
Santiago Gimenez – 7/10
Despite wasting two decent chances, the Mexican striker was Milan’s best attacking player tonight. After all, he drew the penalty.
Rafael Leao – 4/10
