FLW’s Millwall fan pundit has commented on the Lions being linked with Plymouth Argyle forward Lorent Tolaj.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion, Millwall will be looking forward to their play-off campaign, which begins against Hull City in the semi-final this Friday evening.
After securing a final day victory over Oxford United, the Lions secured a third-placed finish, with Ipswich Town’s routine win over Queens Park Rangers making sure the Tractor Boys secured the second and final automatic promotion spot.
It will be a case of what could have been for Alex Neil’s men, with a recent draw to relegated Leicester City the opportunity that got away to secure their place back in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, Millwall shouldn’t be dwelling at this stage, with the South London outfit preparing to travel all the way to East Yorkshire to take on the Tigers in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.
Hull grabbed the sixth and final play-off spot on the final day by overcoming Norwich City, pipping their way past Wrexham and Derby County, who both dropped crucial points.
The task for Millwall now will be to get a positive result at the MKM Stadium, allowing them to go back to The Den and get the job done, ensuring their place at Wembley Stadium for the final.
Of course, with Millwall unsure of knowing which division they’ll be playing in next season just yet, plans won’t yet have been put in place for the 2026-27 season from a transfer perspective.
However, a report by Football Insider has emerged that the Lions have joined a long list of clubs keen on a summer swoop for Plymouth Argyle forward Lorent Tolaj, who appears to have earned the right to make yet another step-up in his career.
The 24-year-old has netted 18 goals and notched eight assists in a mightily impressive campaign for Arygle, who narrowly missed out on their place in the third tier play-offs.
And with Plymouth’s fate sealed in League One for at least another season, Tolaj is expected to move on and secure a move to the Championship.
With this in mind, FLW’s Millwall fan pundit has commented on whether the Lions should pursue a move for Tolaj this summer, and whether he could hit the ground running at The Den.

Speaking to Football League World, Millwall fan pundit Lucas Ball has admitted a move for Lorent Tolaj will be dependent on whether Millwall are a Championship or Premier League side next season, with the forward backed to arrive at The Den provided the Lions fail in their quest for promotion.
Lucas told FLW: “I think he’s definitely one of those that will be on the potential Championship recruitment list, but if we do go up, I don’t think he’ll be on the target list, should we win promotion.
“He looks a threat. He looks like he has a variety of a skillset which is positive. I think he can hold the ball up pretty well, he’s decent in the air from the little I’ve seen of him, admittedly not loads.
“Obviously, 18 goals in League One and eight assists is a great return, and he’s someone that looks like he could make the step up. A lot of players have improved ten-fold under Alex Neil and his staff, so there’s clearly room to grow and that’s something we’re keen on with our strategy as well.
“I think it’s a sensible one to have him on the radar, and we’ll see what happens this weekend or potentially at Wembley in the play-offs, if that is to be the route, then that will have a huge bearing on our transfer activity and rumours moving forward, so yeah we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Lorent Tolaj has been one of the standout forwards in League One, and has been such a key figure to the Pilgrims’ revival under Tom Cleverley, which saw them get mightily close to squeaking into the play-off picture.
Tolaj rounded off his League One term in style with a goal and assist at Northampton Town, which resulted in the frontman providing four goals and four assists from his last six outings.
Such a late purple patch, matched with his overall consistency over the season, has proven that he is a Championship player in waiting, and he has fully deserved his chance to put his name in lights on the second tier stage.
From Millwall’s perspective, any deal is on the basis of how their journey in the play-offs goes.
If they are unable to secure promotion, then they should be one of the leading candidates to land Tolaj, with the club almost certainly holding aspirations of another promotion push, should they be unsuccessful this time around.
But if they go up, it’s difficult to see Tolaj making a two-tier step-up, while the club would surely be on the lookout for players with top-flight experience over taking gambles on unproven players.
Therefore, if we are to see Tolaj in a Millwall shirt, then it will have to be if they’re a Championship side next season, with the Premier League not his calling card for another couple of years at least.
