Millwall FC can seal emotional transfer reunion involving Burnley - on one condition

Zian Flemming has been a beacon of light in a dismal season for the Clarets

With just a matter of days until the Championship's regular season comes to an end, it is still anyone's guess as to who could seal the second automatic promotion spot and join Coventry City in the Premier League.

Naturally, two of the three sides still in with a shot of glory are in a position many expected them to be in at the start of the season in the form of Ipswich Town and Southampton, whilst Millwall are doing their utmost under Alex Neil to put a dent in the Tractor Boys' and Saints' aspirations of an immediate return to the top-flight.

It has been some 36 years since the Lions last graced the elite level, with it still being known as the First Division at the time, and they could be guided back there by Alex Neil, who has tasted the Premier League's riches for one season previously when in charge of Norwich City.

The Scot has done a remarkable job at The Den in the 18-month period he has overseen, with the London club narrowly missing out on securing a play-off place last season to, at the very worst, making sure they are a part of the post-season lottery at Championship level for the first time since 2002.

In recent times, the club have begun to drift away from the stereotypical direct on-pitch approach with which it became synonymous, as several highly-gifted technicians have recently found themselves plying their trade in SE16 in recent times.

The standout this season has been Femi Azeez, who, unsurprisingly, now has a plethora of Premier League suitors. However, Millwall could become the 'hunters', rather than the 'hunted' in the market and potentially seal an emotional reunion this summer on one condition.

Millwall should plot emotional Zian Flemming reunion if they seal Premier League return

With the Lions potentially two, or at a maximum, five games away from a first-ever season in the now-known Premier League, they could be swapping places with Burnley, as the Clarets' immediate relegation back to the Championship was confirmed in midweek.

It has been a dire campaign for Scott Parker's side, with his own managerial future at Turf Moor plunged into doubt as a result of just 20 points being accumulated from 34 matches, with just four wins achieved all season in the league.

Ironically, they emphatically dispatched the Lions 5-1 in the FA Cup third round, but that doesn't tell the full story, and it would be no surprise to see several star names and better performers seek an exit route in the summer window.

One of those is a man who Millwall fans know all about in Dutch forward, Zian Flemming, who made an initial loan move from South London to East Lancashire permanent last summer after Burnley achieved automatic promotion alongside Leeds United.

Parker's team have only scored 34 times all season thus far, with the attacker responsible for nine of those in just 25 appearances, further showcasing his creative threat that is backed up by a record of 34 goals and 12 assists at Championship level beforehand.

Returning Zian Flemming to Millwall would add firepower to the Lions if they were promoted

Indeed, the Amsterdam native was a popular figure at The Den during his first spell, and given how he has come on further leaps and bounds, a reunion makes plenty of sense aside from the fact it would only add to the joy felt by Lions fans if promotion was achieved.

Not only is Flemming extremely gifted on the ball, but his physicality and off-ball movement make him a handful for opposition defenders, whilst those in blue would largely be familiar with his game, having previously shared the pitch.

Almost hitting double-figures in a Burnley side not known for creating many chances per game is no mean feat, and that is an aspect Neil and his team would have to be wary of next season, as they are defensively sound, but have scored the least goals out of any side currently in the Championship's top six, despite the fact Mihailo Ivanovic, Josh Coburn and Femi Azeez all have respectable individual tallies.

Flemming is also under contract at Turf Moor until 2029 at present, but promotion to the top-flight would unlock riches Millwall have never seen before, allowing a deal to become financially viable.
