Millwall could benefit from launching a Southampton transfer raid for an out-of-favour winger with a point to prove in the Championship.

Millwall will be looking to build on a positive season last term, as they return to Championship action in August.

The Lions missed out on a one-game chance to win promotion into the Premier League for the first time in their history, after being beaten by Hull city in their play-off semi-final last season.

Alex Neil's side caught the eye for all the right reasons in the regular season, and the club's supporters will fancy their chances of making a serious push for a top six finish in this year's league campaign.

It could be an interesting summer ahead for Millwall, as Neil looks to add to his squad, which he's already shown evidence of being keen to do.

Elkan Baggot, Mark Sykes, Tairyk Arconte, and Mathis Servais have all arrived at the club, and will be keen to make a positive impact early on.

However, with Thierno Ballo returning to France from his loan spell at Millwall last season, there is a sizeable void at left-wing, and it'll be interesting to see who Alex Neil targets to fill that position ahead of the 2026/27 season.

One player that should be on Millwall's transfer radar this summer is Southampton winger, Samuel Edozie, who has found regular game time hard to come by with the Saints.

Edozie was previously on the books with Manchester City as a youngster, but only made one senior appearance for the Premier League giants, which came in the 2021 Community Shield defeat to Leicester City.

The 23-year-old then went on to sign for Southampton on a permanent deal in 2022, when he signed a five-year deal with the Saints, whilst they were playing their football in the Premier League.

In the 2023/24 Championship campaign, he made 36 appearances in all competitions, as Southampton won promotion back into the top-flight at the first time of asking.

However, since then, he's found it difficult to nail down regular minutes with the Saints for one reason or another. Most recently, Edozie made 18 appearances for Southampton during the 2025/26 season, although just two of those appearances were starts in the Championship, and so it's clear to see that he doesn't feature much in Tonda Eckert's plans for the future.

With Edozie not featuring much in the last few years, his days with Southampton could be numbered. A loan move could potentially be the ideal move for all parties involved this summer, and Millwall should certainly look at registering their interest in a player of his quality if he was to become available in the coming months.

He's got a point to prove, and will be hungry for regular game time, and if he can repay that faith shown by a new club, then they could have a brilliant player on their hands.

Edozie is still only 23, and has shown glimpses of his quality in the early stages of his professional career, and is more than good enough to be playing regularly in the Championship moving forwards.

He's a tricky player to come up against for opposition full-backs, with his dribbling and composure on the ball making him difficult to contain when he's at his best.

A move to Millwall could be the ideal move as well, as Alex Neil could benefit from adding strength in depth to their left-wing options, and the potential of having Edozie or Kyrell Lisbie and Azeez on either flank would be a real treat for Millwall supporters to witness each week, although there are doubts as to how long Azeez will stick around with Millwall amid interest from Premier League clubs.

With Thierno Ballo returning to Saint-Étienne from his loan spell with Millwall earlier this summer, the left-wing position is something that needs addressing sooner rather than later for Alex Neil, and if he can recruit smartly, then it'll address a problem position for the Lions ahead of the new campaign. Kyrell Lisbie is reportedly set to sign for Millwall in the near future, but with Azeez's future up in the air, the Millwall boss should still consider a move for a player of Edozie's quality, as he's a versatile option to have on either flank.

Millwall are set to get their 2026/27 Championship season underway against Bristol City on Saturday 15th August, in what has the potential to be a tough test on the opening weekend of the season for Alex Neil's side.
