Wolves could turn to Millwall's Mihailo Ivanovic if they lost influential striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to Newcastle United this summer.

Millwall have had a mixed start to the season, but there will still be full belief that this can be a special year for Alex Neil’s side.

The Lions have flirted with the play-offs in recent years, and the challenge is to take that big next step by securing a top six finish.

Of course, it won’t be easy, but a more aggressive approach in the transfer market, combined with the good work of Neil, means there is a lot to like about the Londoners.

Millwall have adopted a more progressive and left-field approach to recruitment in recent times, utilising foreign markets to source talent and collect profits - which will doubtless be the case if and when star striker Mihailo Ivanovic does depart.

Millwall must retain Mihailo Ivanovic amid summer transfer interest

However, that strong base could be impacted by a potential sale, and losing Ivanovic would be a major blow for Millwall.

The Serbian enjoyed a fantastic first season in English football, scoring 12 goals in 37 Championship games, and he impressed with his all-round ability leading the line.

At 20, Ivanovic looks like a young player with huge potential, and it’s no surprise that a host of clubs have been linked with the striker, with interest from sides in Italy, and Wolves are also known to be admirers.

And, it’s Wanderers’ interest that could be the most concerning for Millwall as they head into the final part of the window, as Newcastle are tracking Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Whilst it should seem inconceivable that Wolves would sell their influential Norwegian after the summer they’ve had, the reality is that the club have shown in recent windows that every player has a price, so if Newcastle stump up the cash amid the ongoing Alexander Isak saga, a deal is there to be done.

That will leave the Premier League side with money to spend, and they will be in desperate need of a striker who has a similar profile to Larsen - which Ivanovic is.

The Millwall man is capable with his back to goal, he can link play, and he has the physicality to battle with the opposition defence. So, he ticks a lot of boxes, and his asking price shouldn’t be a problem for Wolves.

Mihailo Ivanovic is crucial to Millwall’s promotion hopes

Therefore, you could forgive key figures at The Den if they are slightly nervous about losing Ivanovic ahead of the deadline, and even though he would command a club-record fee, his exit would seriously damage their promotion hopes.

With the Lions also vulnerable to losing Japhet Tanganga due to a £1.2m release clause that is applicable to Premier League clubs, it’s fair to say that all connected to the club wouldn’t mind the window shutting right now.

As outlined above, every player has a price, so it’s pointless for Millwall to say that Ivanovic will not leave.

And, we’ve seen the issues that keeping unhappy individuals can have at other clubs in the country, although there’s no indication that Ivanovic would act in such a manner.

Nevertheless, the only thing that Millwall can do is have plans in place for every scenario, even if it goes down until the final minute of the deadline on September 1, as they are well positioned to have a real attempt at reaching the play-offs, but losing Ivanovic could derail that bid before it really starts.
