Liverpool’s recent resurgence has been bolstered by the growing connection between Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz. Since his £40 million move from Bournemouth in the summer of 2025, Kerkez has gradually settled into life at Anfield. After a rocky start, the Hungarian left-back has now become a key figure in Arne Slot’s team, featuring in four consecutive matches as Liverpool remain unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions.
Initially, the 22-year-old struggled to adapt to Liverpool’s high expectations. However, with support from his teammates, Kerkez has shown impressive development. “All the guys have helped me a lot [to settle in],” Kerkez told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They’ve pushed me. The last few weeks have been better because we’ve had time to gel and get to know each other.”
As the season progresses, Kerkez’s confidence grows, and his on-field relationship with Florian Wirtz continues to strengthen. The pair have formed a strong bond, especially down the left-hand side, where their interplay has been vital to Liverpool’s attacking success. “At the moment, there’s a good connection between me and Flo [Wirtz],” Kerkez explained. “We’re playing good and I hope it keeps going.”

One of the key factors in Kerkez’s improvement has been Liverpool’s tactical shift under Slot. The 4-2-3-1 formation has given Kerkez greater freedom to express himself offensively. In recent weeks, he has become a more prominent attacking presence, frequently finding himself in the opposition box. “I like it because I have more freedom with Flo,” said Kerkez. “We are moving, passing and playing a lot of one-twos.”
This tactical change has allowed Kerkez to provide more service to Liverpool’s attackers while still maintaining his defensive responsibilities. His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively has been a significant asset in Slot’s system.
While Kerkez is pleased with his progress, he remains focused on improving further. “I felt like I was in the opposition box a lot more and crossing,” Kerkez admitted. “Defending is my first job so it’s getting better and I’m happy about it.” As his partnership with Wirtz flourishes and his confidence continues to build, Kerkez could become a key component in Liverpool’s push for more silverware under Slot’s leadership.
