The Egyptian could break the record for most goals and assists in a Premier League campaign on Sunday
Mohamed Salah has been named Premier League Player of the Year after scoring 28 goals as Liverpool clinched a second Premier League title.
He becomes just the fifth player to win the award on multiple occasions, following Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, and Nemanja Vidic.
History beckons for Salah on Sunday as Liverpool host Crystal Palace in their final match of the season. The Reds had the title sewn up in April after putting five goals past Tottenham at home, and will finally lift the trophy on Sunday.
With two goal involvements in the tie, Salah would break Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s record for the most goals and assists in one campaign (47). They set that record in a 42-match season - the Egyptian set the record this year for most contributions in a 38-match campaign.
With 28 goals and 18 assists, the Egyptian has been comfortably the League’s most productive attacker this campaign.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is his closest rival, but trails him considerably with 29 goal involvements (23 goals, 6 assists), and it would require a herculean effort for him to prevent Salah from winning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season awards. Jacob Murphy sits second in the assists leaderboard with 12.
Having signed a contract extension in April amid transfer interest from Al Hilal, Salah is set for at least one more season on Merseyside and has set his sights on winning more silverware.
Speaking to the Football Writers Association this week, he said: “I am here because we have won the Premier League and I have had that impact on the team.
“I hope I can [win this award] again next season. I want to win the Premier League one more time and the Champions League again.”
Salah now sits fifth on the list of Premier League all-time top goalscorers with 185, having surpassed Sergio Aguero (184) with his goal against Tottenham.
