Salah will leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer as a Reds icon after nine years and a glut of major silverware
The Egyptian forward will depart Anfield this summer after nine illustrious years, during which time he has firmly cemented his legacy as a Reds icon, winning a glut of major silverware including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Salah has set a number of individual records during his time at Liverpool, where he is behind only the great Ian Rush and 1966 World Cup winner Roger Hunt on the all-time top scorers list with 257 goals and 122 assists in 440 appearances across all competitions.
The 33-year-old only signed a new two-year contract on Merseyside in April 2025 to initially end long-running speculation over his future, though an agreement was then reached last month for him to leave early on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
Salah is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered against Crystal Palace last weekend, though the club have described the muscle issue as “minor” and he is expected to return before the end of the Premier League campaign - although not against arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Salah has now opened up on his difficult decision to leave Liverpool during a new interview with Gerrard on TNT Sports' The Breakdown, during which he revealed that his fellow Anfield legend came to his house for dinner and had a conversation that was key to his thinking.
“Yeah, I'm happy now, Salah said. “I remember we had that conversation, I appreciated that. I think people didn't know that you came to my house. I hope it was a good dinner!

“We had a good conversation, and you said your opinion, and I think I really, really appreciate it.
“Yeah, I'm glad that I'm leaving now from a big door, and I think this is also something you mentioned to me, just leaving on your terms, and I still remember those words, so, yeah, I'm happy about it... it's time to go.”
Salah also confirmed to Gerrard that he would indeed play again this season, hopefully before Liverpool’s final game at home to Brentford on May 24.
“For sure [I will be back for the final game],” Salah said. “The injury is fine.
“Yeah, definitely, I will probably be [back] before that.”
