A heavy defeat to RC Lens on Saturday night leaves AS Monaco in sixth on 20 points from 12 games. RC Strasbourg Alsace, Stade Rennais, and OGC Nice could all surpass the Principality club by the end of the gameweek.

The 4-1 defeat to Lens was also Monaco’s second on the bounce in the league. Speaking in a mixed zone interview attended by Get French Football News, CEO Thiago Scuro evaluated the Principality club’s start to the campaign.

“When we look at where we are in the league, it is below our expectations. We expect to do more. We have lost so many games that are fighting in a different tier in the table, with all due respect to them. We have to stop that. We have to change our mindset in the league games. We have a big ambition in our three competitions,” said Scuro.

‘The team will progress with him’ – Scuro on Monaco manager Pocognoli

It has been a hectic start to the season for Les Monégasques, who, as well as competing in Europe, have also had a managerial change, with Sébastien Pocognoli replacing Adi Hutter in mid-October. Scuro is happy with the young Belgian’s work, despite recent defeats.

“My opinion on his first month? It is very positive. We made a very good choice, a very strong decision. He is adapting better and better. He has clear communication, clear principles, a good relationship with players, and he is a young and ambitious coach, so it matches a lot with what we are trying to build, and naturally, with the time that he has not yet had, the team will progress with him,” said Monaco’s CEO.
