Moncada gives update on crucial Milan renewals: “Players are very happy to stay with us” | OneFootball

AC Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada has shed some light on how his role has changed as a technical director, confirming two renewals are close.

The game at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara was originally pencilled in for the end of October but the game was postponed due to a flood risk. It was quite a contentious decision though and it ended up causing a fall-out of sorts.

Fast-forward to the end of February, and the match arguably carries a lot more meaning. Milan are eight points behind Juventus in fourth with a game in hand, which is tonight, so a win is needed or the Champions League places will disappear off into the sunset.

Moncada spoke to DAZN moments before kick-off in Emilia and his comments were relayed by MilanNews as he spoke about the targets for the rest of the season plus renewals.

How big a game is it today?

“Another final. We messed up the first one against Torino. We are playing against a good team. For us it is fundamental for the fourth place. It is a great battle.”

What do you feel you can give between now and the end of the season?

“I think being positive is important right now. We are in trouble, we know it. We still have a lot of games, I know the players very well and I know they can do even more: the team has a lot of room for growth.”

How has your role changed now that you are technical director?

“I am here every day with the staff and the coach to lend a hand.”

How is it different from being a chief scout?

“Totally different, especially for the mental aspect.”

What can you tell us about renewals?

“The renewals are very positive. We worked well thanks to the club, we did everything to renew with the players.

“The important thing is to have control over the players, we cannot lose them when their contracts expire, ever. We work hard, and it seems to me that the players are very happy to stay with us.”

Are Pulisic and Reijnders going to extend?

“We are very close.”

“This argument also applies to them, it’s important.”
