With Alexis Saelemaekers performing well since returning from injury for AS Roma, some news has come out about his departure from AC Milan, and the club will be happy with his progress.
Before Paulo Fonseca had a chance to properly assess his squad, Saelemaekers was a player listed with no future at the club. However, the Portuguese seemed to take quite a liking to the winger during the American pre-season tour, leading to reports that he could stay.
However, as we know, the Belgian eventually moved to Roma after persistent suggestions that the two clubs could manufacture a swap deal involving Tammy Abraham and on deadline day, this came to fruition.
It was not without Milan keeping an eye on the future though. Similar to some of the Rossoneri’s big names, the winger’s deal was set to expire in the summer of 2026, which would make a deal difficult next summer – given if he had a good loan spell his price would be difficult to negotiate.
This was seemingly a concern for the Diavolo though, and as Matteo Moretto reports on his X account, the club opted to ‘include a renewal option’ which will see him extend his deal until 2027 before he departed for the capital, a shrewd idea indeed given how he has been playing as of late.
