Last weekend’s win over Hibernian in the Scottish Cup for Celtic FC Women saw the Ghirls make the ideal start to 2026.
This was also the case for Morgan Cross, who kicked off the first game of the new year with a goal, which helped the Ghirls to that 3-2 victory.
So far this season, it has been a fine campaign for the winger, who has already doubled her goal tally of last season at this stage.
Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of this weekend’s match against Motherwell, Cross reflected on what was a positive result for the Hoops in reaching the quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old admitted it is always a good feeling to get off to a great start under a new manager as she praised the squad for their character in the game.
“We were delighted with the win last weekend. It was a great way to start the year.
“Obviously that was the objective to get to the next round of the cup, so we are really happy to do that.
“You always want to get off to a great start when you have a new manager in. So, we were really happy as a squad to get a win like that.
‘We showed great character during the game too. We showed a desire and resilience.’
“So hopefully we can build on that and keep it going throughout the season as we move forward.”
As the Ghirls' first league outing against Motherwell on Sunday approaches, the squad were quickly back to work at Barrowfield earlier this week.
The past seven days have marked another week in the Grant Scott era, with the new manager continuing to work closely with his group of players.
Ahead of facing her former side on what would be her 50th appearance should she feature on Sunday, Cross insists the work on the training pitch has been positive.
The wingers knows the Hoops will still have to be at their best to come away with all three points as they aim to continue building momentum.
“Working under Grant so far has been good. He’s come in with some new ideas and we’re just looking for that to make us better on the pitch.
‘Our work on the pitch this week going into Sunday has been good. The girls are right up for it.’
“We’ll just be looking to keep doing what we have been doing and get the three points from that game.
“It will be a tough game. K Park is always a tough place to go, and Motherwell make it a competitive game there.
“So, we are expecting a strong team from them. Obviously, they have a new manager as well. We will be ready for it.
“We want to keep the momentum going that we had from the back end of last year and hopefully keeping pushing forward with that.”
