It's transfer deadline day. A time when anything is possible. A time of madness.

And Liverpool are right in the thick of it. Alexander Isak will complete his long-awaited move to the Reds. Marc Guehi could still join, depending on what Crystal Palace end up doing.

But the biggest surprise deal of the day could a late move for Morgan Rogers.

Liverpool have explored a move for Rogers earlier on in the window. Indy Kalia for Football Insider reported a few days ago that the Reds are still keeping an eye on his situation and planned a formal inquiry for the player.

Rogers is well liked by the Liverpool hierarchy. He's seen as the versatile attacking option they have been looking for all summer. He can play in midfield, out wide and also as a no.10 to provide cover for Florian Wirtz.

The club has been very clear that they won't sanction a move for Harvey Elliott before the deadline unless they find someone to replace him.

Rogers fits that profile and things are starting to fall into place for a very late move to Anfield to come to fruition.

According to The Times Aston Villa are monitoring Harvey Elliott's situation at Liverpool. This opens up a possibility of Liverpool concluding a potential swap deal with Villa in which Elliott goes to Unai Emery's side and Rogers joins the Reds.

It would require Liverpool to spend a bit extra on top of offering up Elliott for Villa. But that is a deal that is very much worth considering for the Reds considering Rogers is a long-term target.

For Villa, there are financial aspects to consider. The club is currently stricken by the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) which means they might just be open to sanctioning a sale for Rogers.

It's interesting to note that as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Villa have also agreed a loan deal for Jadon Sancho, which again facilitates the departure of Rogers.

The club is also still exploring agreeing a deal for Marco Asensio to return to Villa, so in theory with the Spaniard, Sancho and Elliott they would also have plenty of cover in order to allow Rogers to leave.

Obviously, this is still unlikely to happen. But the possibility is now very much on. Rogers to Liverpool is one to keep a close eye on.

The clock is ticking though. There's not long left until the deadline at 7pm UK time. But if anyone can pull this deal off, it's Richard Hughes. He's shown this summer, he's capable of anything.
