Morocco and Cameroon have joined Senegal and Mali in progressing to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Here’s how they did it…
The host nation beat Tanzania 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Brahim Diaz, who has now scored in each of Morocco’s four games at the tournament.
Walid Regragui’s side have had an almost flawless run to this point and have not yet lost. They only drew one group game, against fellow semi-finalists Mali, and have won every other match.
Real Madrid star Diaz is one of Morocco’s star players and has stepped up during AFCON, scoring four goals in the competition.
Morocco have kept three clean sheets from their four games so far, and only conceded one goal.
Achraf Hakimi managed his first start of the tournament, and was influential against a Tanzania side who were playing their first ever knockout game at an AFCON.
Cameroon overcame South Africa to book their place in the quarter-final of the tournament.
Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane scored either side of half-time to give Cameroon a 2-0 lead, before Evidence Makgopa bagged for the South Africans in the 88th minute to set up a tense final few minutes.
Camerooon, like Morocco, have almost had a perfect run in this competition. They have not yet lost and only drew one group game.
David Pagou’s side were far from among the favourites heading into the tournament but have been very impressive so far.
Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba especially impressed against South Africa, and was monstrous in the middle of the park.
He made the most tackles in the match with four, and also won the most duels in the match (10).
Manchester United are thought to be keen on pursuing a deal for him this January but Brighton want to wait until the summer.
