Morocco: When Regragui teases Hakimi about the African Ballon d'Or | OneFootball

In a clip shared on social media after Achraf Hakimi was awarded the African Ballon d'Or last Wednesday, Walid Regragui is seen playfully teasing his player.

In Rabat, Walid Regragui met up with Achraf Hakimi at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, following the CAF Awards 2025 ceremony. In a snippet from the new episode of Canal Football Club, set to air this Sunday on the encrypted channel, the player, riding a scooter, comes to greet his coach and the coaching staff.

Upon spotting Hakimi, Regragui calls out: "Ballon d'Or!" To which Hakimi replies: "Jefe (meaning ‘boss’, editor’s note)." Then the coach playfully continues the banter in Spanish:

"-You look taller now"

-It's because of the scooter

-It must be since you won the Ballon d'Or!"

Still in the video, Regragui praised Hakimi’s fierce winning mentality. The Spanish coach appeared highly confident about the former Madrid player’s explosive return. In his view, Hakimi’s competitive fire will be so intense that they’ll inevitably clash in good spirits on the training pitch: “I know him. When he steps back on the field, he’ll be a beast. That ball, I think we’re going to get into it when he returns: ‘possession, one touch, wait...’ I’ll end up telling him, ‘get off the pitch.’”
