A Sunday trip to Fir Park

The Hoops travel to Fir Park on Sunday afternoon following an intense Champions League battle with Gian Piero Gasperini’s Europa League winners on Wednesday evening. Importantly, Celtic will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premiership having let a two goal lead slip last weekend versus high-flying Aberdeen.

Pressure could mount on Brendan Rodgers side heading into the Motherwell clash as Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen can go top of the table with a victory over Dundee United at a sold-out Pittodrie stadium tonight. That would put them three points ahead of Celtic and NINE ahead of theRangers with both Glasgow clubs playing tomorrow.

Motherwell are having a decent season

Meanwhile, the Steelmen have had a positive start to their campaign. Defeat against Dundee in their first game back after the international break was only Kettlewell’s side second loss of the season. Sitting in fifth, Motherwell are two points off Dundee United and three behind theRangers. Notably, a trip to Hampden [for the second time this season]against theRangers awaits next Sunday for Motherwell, this time for the League Cup semi-final.

Their trickiest test of the season has arrived, and with Celtic bruised from Aberdeen grabbing a point in Glasgow’s East End around a week ago, Brendan Rodgers’ side will be aiming to make it eight wins from nine in the Scottish Premiership.

You saw a completely different side to Celtic

Motherwell’s astute gaffer Stuart Kettlewell has outlined his plans heading into their clash with the Scottish champions, “The first place you have to start is having that defensive stability which I think we’ve had a lot of against Celtic. You referenced the European game the other night and I thought they were fantastic on that front. Celtic were excellent against in my opinion one of Europe’s top sides. I thought you saw a completely different side to them,” the Motherwell manager said.

Players have to have that confidence and belief

“I envisage that the game will look and feel a bit different come Sunday but we know they’ve got threats on every area on the pitch and we need to prepare for that. I stress again that the players have to have that confidence and belief that when we have the spells on the ball and attack their half of the pitch, we do it with a structure, with a plan and, most importantly, with a confidence.”
