The last few months have seen significant, even radical, changes at Real Madrid. The most notable of them is clearly the departure of Alvaro Arbeloa, who was the head coach of the team for the second half of the last season, and the arrival of Jose Mourinho to replace him on the bench. With him, the Portuguese manager has brought his own set of assistants, and there has been a significant change in the coaching staff as well.
Meanwhile, the team has also seen several changes. Four new players have already been bought, including Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfies, Ibrahima Konate, and Bernardo Silva, while some more signings can also be completed in the coming weeks. On the other hand, players like Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos, David Alaba, and Dani Carvajal have left the team.
The departure of the latest of these players, Carvajal, is going to have a significant impact on the team going forward. Last season he was the first captain of the Merengue team, and with his departure, Los Blancos have lost one of the main leaders of the dressing room.
Now, as Diario AS has reported, the new captaincy hierarchy has been decided by Mourinho, and Federico Valverde is set to become the new first captain. Following him would be Vinicius Junior as the second, Thiabut Courtois as the third, and Rodrygo Goes as the fourth captain.
Two of these players, Valverde and Vinicius, were involved in quite a lot of controversy last season, as they were blamed for the failure and departure of Xabi Alonso. The Uruguayan remained in the headlines for his fight with Aurelien Tchouameni at the end of the season as well.
Now, hopefully, they will get over their troubles from the last season, and respond to the faith shown in them by the new coach to lead the Real Madrid team into a new era of success and triumph.
