According to Glorioso 1904, Real Madrid have scheduled presidential elections for 7 June, a development with direct implications for Mourinho’s future.
Florentino Pérez and Enrique Riquelme will contest the presidency for the 2026-2030 term.
Pérez is keen to appoint the Special One for next season and is said to have an understanding with the Portuguese coach, a scenario that has kept Benfica on alert in recent weeks.
The validation of Riquelme’s candidacy has triggered the first ballot since 2006. The 37-year-old businessman positions himself as Pérez’s direct rival and has outlined a different sporting vision for the club.
Riquelme does not plan to move for José Mourinho if he wins, so a Pérez defeat could reshape the picture and potentially clear the way for Mourinho to remain at Benfica.
Benfica, meanwhile, have no official clarity on the Setúbal-born coach’s plans. Mourinho has not communicated a definitive decision to the hierarchy led by Rui Costa, while Madrid’s electoral process grows in significance for the coming weeks.
