José Neto, one of José Mourinho’s standout prospects at Benfica, was omitted from the squad for the draw at Casa Pia because of a physical problem.

Record reports that the 17-year-old returned from international duty with complaints that prompted medical assessment, and that he is managing a traumatic issue not thought to be serious.

His absence was mitigated by the availability of Samuel Dahl, the Swedish defender and regular starter, who was not called up by his national team and used the break to recover after a busy run.

Neto came to wider attention after his displays at the Under-17 World Cup, where Portugal were crowned champions.

Alongside Anísio Cabral and Daniel Banjaqui, Benfica are expected to finalise a renewal for the left-back, potentially until 2031.

In 2025/26, Neto, valued at three million euros, has made 28 official appearances across the under-19, under-23, B and senior teams, totalling 1,893 minutes, with one goal and four assists.
