Murilo rues draw, says Palmeiras were well below par

Palmeiras found themselves in a tough spot in the Brazilian Championship. Abel Ferreira’s team couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw against Vitória on Wednesday night (19th) at Allianz Parque and may see Flamengo open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

With only four matches remaining—three away and just one at home—in the Brasileirão, Flamengo could open up a five-point gap if they beat Fluminense also this Wednesday, at Maracanã.

After the match, defender Murilo spoke to the press after Verdão dropped important points in the race for the continental competition.

Abel does a great job managing the group. We were well below our best, tough matches, very important ones. Unfortunately, the goal didn’t come. We need to stay calm, keep our composure, and focus on the next game. It’s tough—today we knew we needed to get points, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

What now?

The draw leaves Palmeiras in a complicated situation in the standings. Verdão now has 69 points, two behind Flamengo, who have 71 but still have to play in this round.

With four rounds left until the end of the Brazilian Championship, the Alviverde team returns to the pitch next Saturday (22nd) against Fluminense, at Allianz Parque, at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), in a match valid for the 35th round.
