Napoli and Atalanta have been handed encouragement in the race for Mario Gila after Lazio lowered their demands. According to Alfredo Pedulla, Claudio Lotito has agreed to cut the asking price for the centre-back.

The 25-year-old is expected to leave with a year left on his deal and little prospect of renewal. His destination remains open, with Napoli said to have an agreement on personal terms, Atalanta having tabled a higher bid, and Brighton monitoring from distance.

Lotito had initially sought €30 million, partly due to Real Madrid’s 50% sell-on clause. The figure is now set at €22 million plus €3 million in bonuses.

Napoli are pursuing a swap element, proposing either Rafa Marin or Lorenzo Lucca in the package. Atalanta are offering Daniel Maldini again or Mitchel Bakker. Lazio are said to prefer a cash-only deal.

The chances of a breakthrough are considered to have improved and movement could follow in the coming days. Atalanta’s interest is described as genuine and serious. The report also notes Maurizio Sarri would like to work with his former Lazio defender again, while Isak Hien’s injury is a factor.
