Atalanta president Antonio Percassi brokered some sort of truce between Gian Piero Gasperini and Ademola Lookman after recent events, but it’s unlikely to change his future. The striker was ready to leave last summer and will do so in the summer, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
The striker had given in to PSG’s courtship in the final days of August. Arsenal and Liverpool were keen on him as well. The boss put his veto since La Dea was about to lose Teun Koopmeiners, even questioning his permanence on the bench. Then things quickly improved due to an early large win over Lecce thanks to newcomers Mateo Retegui and Marco Brescianini.
In the end, the brass convinced Lookman to stay for one more season, but the relationship with the coach was never truly mended. Juventus and Napoli are keeping tabs on the situation ahead of possible offers. Atalanta are long-time admirers of Giacomo Raspadori.
The star is under contract until 2026 but with a team option. He has totaled 15 goals and 7 in 28 seasonal appearances. The Bergamaschi won just once in six matches during his recent injury-related absence.
It looks like he didn’t get a new and improved contract after what happened last summer, which is a factor too. La Dea had seemingly made the same promise to Koopmeiners the year before, but they still eventually obstructed his exit. His price tag should arguably be even higher, making him a long-shot target for Serie A sides. He’d be a swell option to fill the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia-sized void, while the Bianconeri have bigger needs in other roles.
