Serie A side Napoli centre-back Sam Beukema reflected on potentially getting selected for the World Cup for the Netherlands.
Speaking in an interview with Radio CRC, Beukema revealed what it would mean to him on a personal level if he got the opportunity to represent the Netherlands in the World Cup this year. The 27-year-old said, “Yes, of course. Playing for the Netherlands is a dream, and going to the World Cup would be incredible.”
“Right now, my full focus is on finishing the season strongly with Napoli. These final matches are crucial.” Beukema reiterated his current focus on the Neapolitans’ Serie A campaign as they are now a point away from second-placed Milan, and five clear of the chasing pack, Como, in the league standings.
The Netherlands have Japan, Tunisia, and the winner of UEFA Playoff Path B, which comprises Ukraine, Sweden, Poland and Albania, in Group F of the World Cup.
Beukema has managed 23 appearances in defence for Napoli across all competitions this season, scoring twice, both coming in the league, and playing a pivotal role in breathing new life to the club’s title defence, which looked derailed for most parts of the campaign.
