The Addicks could end a run of six games without a win at The Valley this weekend.

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones will be desperate for a win against Oxford United at The Valley on Saturday — it could transform the Addicks' season.

The Londoners have not tasted victory since they beat West Bromwich Albion at home in the first week of November, and they lost five consecutive games before stopping the rot with a 1-1 draw away against Birmingham City over the weekend.

Jones has had to cope with injuries to a number of key players, including Amari'i Bell, Matty Godden and Charlie Kelman, during that poor run of form, which has included difficult trips to Wrexham, Stoke City and Coventry City, as well as tough home games against Southampton and Middlesbrough.

Now that the Addicks have reached the other side of that tricky spell, they face three games against sides currently below them in the Championship table, starting with the visit of Oxford United to The Valley on Saturday, before back-to-back away games against Norwich City and Portsmouth between Christmas and New Year.

With five points currently separating them from the relegation zone in the second tier, it is vital that Charlton pick up a couple of positive results before January, otherwise they risk being dragged into the midst of a relegation battle in 2026.

Victory against Oxford could transform Charlton's season

With a couple of players set to return during the coming weeks, a favourable run of fixtures, and the January transfer window just around the corner, a win against Oxford United on Saturday could be the catalyst for Charlton to transform their season following a difficult recent run.

The U's have picked up nine of their 19 points away from home this season, and they have shown they can cause problems on the road with victories against Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday, but Charlton will hope their strong home record under Jones can see them pick up their first win in six games.

Before they were beaten by Southampton and Middlesbrough in their last two home games, the Addicks had only lost once at The Valley in 2025, and they were arguably unlucky to lose that game against Leicester City back in August, as it was courtesy of a moment of magic from Abdul Fatawu.

If they can get back to winning ways in front of their own fans this weekend, Charlton will have renewed confidence going into key games at Norwich and Portsmouth, and will be in a much better position to welcome back their injured players, as well as any new signings.

Tyreece Campbell decision could be key against Oxford

Nathan Jones has a big decision to make on Saturday which could be key to whether his side takes all three points against Oxford.

The Welshman benched Tyreece Campbell for just the second time this season against Birmingham, and he came off the bench to score his first goal of the campaign to earn a point for the visitors.

Previously, against Ipswich Town, the 22-year-old provided an assist for Miles Leaburn to help Charlton win 3-0 at Portman Road after coming on as a substitute.

That means two thirds of Campbell's goal contributions this season have come from the bench, with his only assist from 18 league starts having come at Loftus Road in August.

On the other hand, when Campbell scored his first League One goal of the season last year in December, he went on to score his second in the very next game, so Jones may want to start him against Oxford to see if the confidence gained from his first Championship strike can lead to him finding the net once again.
