Meanwhile, earlier today, United also agreed a deal with former Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow to join the club on a free transfer.

Manchester United keen on Neco Williams

Manchester United are also open to strengthening their left flank, with INEOS monitoring several wingers and full-backs.

United have been strongly linked with Lewis Hall, who is highly admired by the club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox. However, Newcastle United are unlikely to sell Hall to their bitter rivals this summer.

According to the BBC, United have registered interest in Nottingham Forest left-back Neco Williams.

The Wales international moved to the City Ground from Liverpool in 2022 for a fee of £12 million. He has gone on to make 160 appearances for Forest, sparking interest from several Premier League clubs in the process.

Williams is known for his versatility and tactical awareness, having shown the ability to effectively play in a back four or a back five, and on either flank.

The 6ft tall resilient defender is also brilliant going forward, having been directly involved in six goals in 53 appearances for Forest across all competitions last term.

Nottingham Forest reluctant to sell

The BBC adds that Williams is in talks over a new deal with the Reds, who remain confident that their reliable star will agree to extend his stay. His current deal expires in 2029.

However, it is underlined that interest in Williams from United and Newcastle United “does create a potential obstacle.”

Earlier this summer, United showed interest in Elliot Anderson, but Forest eventually sold the England midfielder to Manchester City, who agreed to break the British transfer record to land him.

United have also been linked with attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. Forest are expected to demand a similar fee for Anderson’s former teammate.
