AVS beat Nacional 2-1 at the Estádio da Madeira as the league's bottom club claimed only their second win of the season.
Filipe Soares put Nacional ahead in the fourth minute with a low strike after a corner. Pedro Lima levelled with a deft header (22.), meeting Tunde Akinsola's delivery.
After the restart, Guilherme Neiva swept in the winner on a fast break (63.) from Diego Duarte's pass. It was Neiva's first goal for AVS since joining this season.
Adriel kept the visitors in front with sharp stops, denying Daniel Júnior early and Paulinho Bóia after the hour, as Nacional pushed.
Late pressure followed from substitutes Lucas João and Witi, with Jesús Andrés Ramírez heading off target in the closing stages. Vitor Hugo received a second yellow and was sent off in the third minute of second half stoppage time.
Nacional dominated the ball with 67.6% possession and tallied 24 attempts. AVS made 42 clearances to see the game out.
