Netherlands 5-1 Sweden player ratings: Gakpo shines as Lindelöf struggles | OneFootball

Cody Gakpo lit up a 5-1 Netherlands win over Sweden, scoring twice and laying on another, while Victor Lindelöf endured a torrid night.

L'Équipe highlighted how often Gakpo pierced a fragile Swedish defence, with the captain frequently powerless.

Brian Brobbey opened the scoring in the fifth minute, set up by Gakpo, then doubled the lead on 17 minutes. Crysencio Summerville replaced Donyell Malen at the break and sparked the move for the third, finished by Gakpo on 47 minutes.

Gakpo struck again on 54 minutes, before Summerville added the fifth on 89 minutes.

Frenkie de Jong dictated play with 96% passing before being withdrawn for Teun Koopmeiners on 60 minutes. Brobbey made way for Memphis Depay on 72 minutes, and Gakpo departed for Noa Lang on 90 minutes.

Sweden’s back line struggled. Lindelöf won no duels and contested only one.

Kristoffer Nordfeldt failed to deal with three early balls across his area, barely pushed off for the final strike, and was also beaten for pace by Gakpo’s effort. Isak Hien was exposed by runs in behind and by Brobbey with his back to goal, while Yasin Ayari twice lacked clarity before the interval and the midfield could not support Gyökeres and Isak.
