Wingback Denzel Dumfries is right on the verge of signing a contract extension with Inter Milan.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the Dutchman will sign a new deal until the end of June 2027, worth €4 million net per season in wages.

Dumfries headed into this season without having signed a new contract with Inter.

That was in spite of the Nerazzurri’s efforts to tie the former PSV wingback down on a new deal during the summer.

At the moment, Dumfries’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, this summer transfer window marked a sort of turning point for the 28-year-old.

Inter made it clear that they wanted to do one of two things. Either they would agree a new contract with Dumfries, or else sell him while they had the chance.

The Nerazzurri had no intention of losing the Dutchman on a free transfer as had happened with Milan Skriniar.

Denzel Dumfries On The Verge Of New Inter Milan Contract

The talks between Inter and Dumfries went on through the summer, albeit interrupted by EURO 2024.

And by all accounts, things have been heading towards an agreement for some time.

Despite an initial gap between Inter and Dumfries on the matter of wages, the 28-year-old has decided that he wants to stay. He is ready to accept Inter’s offer.

However, the Nerazzurri did not manage to make it official before the start of the season.

This has perhaps introduced a bit of anxiety. Theoretically, Dumfries is just a few months away from the prospect of leaving on a free transfer.

But according to Sky, that won’t be the case for long.

The broadcaster report that Dumfries should sign a new deal shortly after returning from international duty.

This new contract will take the 28-year-old until the end of June 2027 at Inter.

Dumfries will naturally receive an increase in pay with the new contract. He is set to earn around €4 million net per season, up from €2.5 million net and commensurate with fellow wingback Federico Dimarco.
