Manuel Neuer causes a stir in Madrid. The veteran comes to the fore with a strong performance in FC Bayern’s win against Real Madrid. His statements after the game speak for themselves.
FC Bayern secured a good starting position in the Champions League quarter-final first leg with a 2-1 win at Real Madrid. The Munich side controlled the game for long stretches before things got tight again in the closing stages, with Manuel Neuer in particular taking center stage with several saves.
After the match, the goalkeeper was satisfied with the result, but also warned of the second leg: „We knew how dangerous Real Madrid can be going forward. They created a lot of chances. We are happy with this away win, but we are also aware that it will be a tough task next week in Munich.“

The 40-year-old delivered an outstanding performance at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and was on hand on several occasions during the hosts‘ pressure phase. He prevented a possible equalizer, particularly against Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Junior, and held on to the narrow lead.
When asked about his performance and his age, Neuer had clear words: „I’m having fun with the team, at the club and with the coaching team. It’s true that I’m 40, but I’m still here.“
His future has been the subject of debate for months, with the media repeatedly questioning whether the veteran can still perform at the top level in the long term, partly due to past injuries. A decision on a possible contract extension is still pending and will probably be made after the duels with Real Madrid. However, Neuer has now sent a clear sporting signal with his performance in Madrid.
