Serge Gnabry’s future at FC Bayern is becoming increasingly clear. The 30-year-old has played his way back to the fore with strong performances – and both the player and the club want to continue their cooperation beyond the season. Particularly noteworthy: Gnabry is open to salary cuts.
Just a few months ago, Serge Gnabry was considered one of the record champions‘ most likely transfer candidates. His performances fluctuated, his standing was tarnished – and with a high salary, the attacking player seemed to be one of the positions Bayern wanted to cut back on.
Under Vincent Kompany, however, the picture has changed significantly. Gnabry not only benefited from Musiala’s injury lay-off, but also seized his opportunity with vigour: eight goals in 15 competitive matches illustrate his consistency and his new status in the team.
Those in charge at Säbener Straße are taking note of this development very closely – and have long since changed course. An extension is now to be actively pursued.

In the Sky podcast Mia san vier, transfer insider Florian Plettenberg confirmed that both sides have the same desire: „Bayern want to extend, Gnabry wants to extend. I am convinced that they will do it.“
For Munich, Gnabry is an important part of the current system due to his tactical flexibility, his experience at the top level and his role as a reliable attacking player.
At the same time, you can sense that the player is feeling comfortable again. He has a high status within the team and his performances speak for themselves.
FC Bayern is keen to streamline its salary structure in the long term. With an estimated annual salary of €17 million, Gnabry is one of the absolute top earners in the squad. An extension would only be possible for the club under clear conditions: the salary would have to be significantly reduced.
And Gnabry has been surprisingly cooperative in this regard. „Gnabry is not someone who insists on the last euro. He is set for eight lifetimes and is already a top earner,“ says Plettenberg.
The willingness to reduce his salary is crucial – and is what makes a contract extension realistic in the first place. FC Bayern wants to position itself more flexibly in the long term without losing sporting quality. Gnabry fits into this concept.
According to Sky, a new two-year contract until 2028 is on the table. It would be a sign of appreciation for the player and a strategic decision for the club: experience, flexibility and stability in attack are to be secured.
