New record: Messi Surpasses Ronaldo in Non Penalty Goals with Latest MLS Brilliance
Lionel Messi's broken yet another historic record surpassing longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the total number of non penalty goals scored in official matches.
The Argentine legend hit brace against New York Red Bulls in the MLS pushing his non penalty goal tally to 764 , one more than Ronaldo who sits at 763.
What's even more astonishing's that Messi achieved this feat in 167 fewer matches than the Portuguese icon.
Since returning from the Club World cup, Messi's been in electrifying form netting back to back braces in 5 consecutive MLS games , a league first. His victims include Montreal, Columbus Crew and Nashville making him the only player in MLS history to score 2+ goals in 5 straight matches.
Messi's continued dominance even in the twilight of his career, further strengthens his case as one of the greatest players of all time. His leadership has also helped Inter Miami recover from recent 3 - 0 setback against FC Cincinnati.
