New World Cup rules to govern Argentine football from 2026 Clausura | OneFootball

Argentina’s refereeing authorities have briefed top-flight clubs on FIFA’s updated Laws, which will come into force from the 2026 Clausura and apply across all AFA competitions.

According to SuperDepor.com, the session for captains, vice-captains and head coaches from 30 clubs was led by Fernando Rapallini, Mauro Vigliano and Ezequiel Brailovsky, with international referee Nicolás Ramírez present.

The reform is built on four pillars, combating discrimination, reducing time-wasting, improving game tempo and enhancing the experience for players and supporters.

To control net playing time, a throw-in must be taken within five seconds once the ball is in the taker’s possession, otherwise it switches to the opponents. A goal kick delayed beyond five seconds will result in a corner to the opposition.

During substitutions, the player coming off has 10 seconds to leave the field. If they exceed that, the replacement must wait one minute until the next stoppage, leaving the team with 10 players temporarily.

If a player requests on-field medical treatment, they must leave the pitch for one minute before re-entering, except in head clashes involving two or more players.

The Ley Prestianni/Vinicius Jr allows a direct red for any player, substitute or staff member who covers their mouth with a hand or shirt while addressing an opponent provocatively. Leaving the field in protest, or inciting team-mates to do so, also brings a direct red.

VAR will have broader scope, including correcting mistaken identity on bookings, advising to annul a wrongly applied second yellow that led to a dismissal, and intervening on an incorrectly awarded corner if done swiftly before the restart.
