It ended Newcastle 0 Everton 1.
A game where United weren’t at their best.
No lack of effort but just not clicking properly, regularly gifting possession and struggling to create clear chances, not enough of them anyway.
Everton played well on the break and got their goal with the help of Newcastle (Murphy) gifting possession.
A defeat BUT a glorious day, as Villa losing at Old Trafford meant in the end, Champions League won despite Newcastle’s performance and defeat.
Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.
‘Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.
Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’
As you can see, ten players in total received a rating of 7.0 or more, with only three of them playing for Newcastle United.
Sven Botman (7.6) rated United’s best, he was subbed just two minutes before the Everton goal.
Tonali (7.2) and Pope (7.2) the only other two who reached that 7.0 or higher rating.
Jordan Pickford (8.6) was rated man of the match and indeed did make plenty of saves, though United not able to create enough really big chances. I actually thought Pope and Pickford were the two best performers overall of all 22 starters.
