Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys, per the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope

The Magpies need a back-up to Lewis Hall and are eyeing Seys. He has already made more than 100 senior appearances.

Seys has registered four goals and four assists across 33 appearances this term, earning himself his first two call-ups to the Belgian national team.

He has won 52 percent of his aerial and 70% of his ground duels in the league. He can play in both full-back positions.

With Matt Targett poised to depart St James’ Park this summer, Newcastle need someone to provide competition in the left-back position, and Seys fits the bill.

Seys looks like precisely the profile Newcastle should be targeting as they reshape a squad that has grown a little stale around the edges.

The 20-year-old offers genuine upside. He is a modern full-back with the legs to cope with Newcastle’s style, but also the technical security to contribute in possession.

His end product numbers hint at a player comfortable in the final third, while his duel success shows he is far from a lightweight defensively.

Crucially, his ability to operate on either flank adds tactical flexibility to a back line that has often felt one injury away from disruption.

Newcastle’s recruitment model has thrived when it has blended youth, athleticism and coachability, and Seys ticks all three boxes.

This is the kind of smart, forward-thinking addition Newcastle are crying out for.
