Newcastle United have issued a strong response after striker Alexander Isak publicly broke his silence on the uncertainty over his future at St. James’ Park.

The Newcastle ace took to Instagram on Monday night, explaining his absence from the PFA Awards, where he was both a nominee and named in the Premier League Team of the Year.

Isak wrote, “When promises are broken, and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue,” in a thinly veiled swipe at Newcastle for their handling of his situation.

The post has set off alarm bells on Tyneside, especially as Isak has yet to feature in pre-season and was absent as the Magpies drew Aston Villa in their Premier League opener.

In a firm statement, Newcastle said, “We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening.

“Alex remains under contract, and no commitment has ever been made by any club official that he could leave Newcastle United this summer.”

Newcastle stressed that while they value players’ opinions, the club must make decisions with the best interests of the team and supporters in mind.

The Magpies reiterated that the conditions for any potential sale have not been met, adding, “Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

Liverpool have been strongly linked with the former Borussia Dortmund forward, having approached Newcastle earlier in the window before turning their attention to Hugo Ekitike.

Despite continued interest, Newcastle have held firm on their £150 million valuation, a stance that has left Isak increasingly frustrated.
