In a recent post on X, renowned reporter Craig Hope claimed that Newcastle United are set to recruit Rangers full-back Oliver Goodbrand this summer. It is understood that the Scottish left-back will undergo his medical at the Tyneside club soon before joining their academy for next season.
Goodbrand has come through the youth ranks of the Glaswegian side but is yet to make a first-team appearance for them. However, the Scottish whizkid has managed to catch the eye with his performances for Scotland’s U-16 team after scoring three goals in three appearances for them in international friendlies.
The 16-year-old is currently amongst the best young players in Scottish football. Hence, Newcastle United would do well to snap him up this summer.
The Tyneside club need to build for the future if they are to sustain their status as a top team in the Premier League. Signing a player of Goodbrand’s potential would undoubtedly be a great move for the Magpies in the long run.

Goodbrand is a bright and energetic left-back who can chip in by scoring a few goals from the left flank. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third.
However, the Scottish prospect is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to prove his worth in English football. Still, it makes sense for Newcastle to sign Goodbrand as he has the ceiling to be a future star at St. James’ Park.
The Scottish talent would undeniably enhance the quality of Newcastle’s academy as the Tyneside club looks to promote more youth talent from within in the future.
At the moment, the Magpies cannot afford to spend big on players. Thus, it is only logical for them to build for the future by signing a left-back of Goodbrand’s potential. He is a star in the making and could be destined to have a bright future in England as long as he continues to improve with each season.
