Newcastle United fans have just seen the 2024/25 Premier League season come to its end.

A season that has proved to be quite magnificent.

As one season ends though, thoughts immediately turn to what comes next, only 11 weeks to go until the 2025/26 Premier League kicks off.

An ideal time to get a snapshot of views from Newcastle United fans on their thoughts, both on the season that has just ended AND what is to now follow.

So we sent out questions to a number of regular/irregular contributors to The Mag.

Next up answering the questions we have 14 year old Chuks McPeake and his dad Greg McPeake:

Three words to describe how you currently feel as a Newcastle fan?

Greg – In the ballot (again)

Chuks – Excited, Hopeful, Confident

Three words to describe Newcastle United now?

Greg – Moving on up

Chuks – Not rubbish anymore

Does 2024/25 now rank as your favourite ever Newcastle United season?

Greg – Yep, no two ways about it. That emotion in De Hems bar in Soho when Isak hit the back of the net at Wembley, incredible. It is actually a Dutch bar and the look on the Dutch lads’ faces when me and my six foot tall daft lad went absolutely mental was priceless.

Chuks – Yes

Which are your three favourite previous NUFC seasons (before 2024/25) and why?

Greg – Too many to think about/remember, I am getting old.

Chuks – I’m only 14 and there hasn’t been many good seasons, though winning the Championship was special.

Talk us through how it was for you, on the last day of the 2024/25 season (Your emotions, how it all played out, where you were watching it (at SJP or wherever), who you shared it with?

Greg – I wrote an article that went up on The Mag about how my Romanian Science teacher work colleague texted me calling us losers. Ah yes, Arsenal, nuff said.

Chuks – TV didn’t work

In order, which eight players have been most influential across the 2024/25 season?

Greg – Burn, Tonali and Isak are the stand outs, but the whole squad has been exceptional and special mention to Murphy who has took flak in particular from my son, which is unquantifiable. Chuks – Tonali, Isak, Bruno, Dubravka, Joelinton, Livramento, Murphy, Burn. Plus an honourable mention, someone else who could make the list, is Harvey Barnes.

Have you at any point during his time at Newcastle United, thought that Eddie Howe’s position should be under question?

Greg – No, never. I’ve said before that when he was brought in we were dead in the water and he was the best man to get us out of the Championship. Thank god we got him.

Chuks – Nah, Eddie Howe’s tactics are sound.

Your favourite three moments in NUFC Premier League matches this past season?

Chuks – Beating Arsenal, Beating Arsenal, Beating Arsenal again.

What are your thoughts on Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell leaving?

Chuks – Leave it to Eddie

Sunderland are now back in the same division as NUFC, your thoughts?

Greg – Hopefully Sunderland will go down with a record low points tally for the Premier League and it will hang around their necks for a long long time.

Chuks – They’re getting relegated

What would represent success in the 2025/26 season for Newcastle United?

Greg – Champions League qualification.

Chuks – Competing for the Prem and the Champions League.

What do you see as the minimum to achieve this coming season?

Greg – Champions League qualification. The gateway to increased revenue and hopefully a way around the nonsense that is PSR.

Chuks – Getting top eight in the Champions League

Predict the top six in the Premier League (in order).

Greg – Newcastle, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton Chuks – Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs

Name a Newcastle player who you think could be a massive surprise success this coming season, doing far better than most fans expect.

Greg – No idea, got me with that question.

Chuks – LewisMiley

Who do you see as the six most important current Newcastle players (in order) for next (2025/26) season?

Greg – Isak, Tonali, Botman, Bruno, Gordon, Livramento Chuks – Tonali, Bruno, Isak, Gordon, Livramento, Hall (Livramento and Hall will be in the England team)

With NUFC now having won a trophy…Next three seasons, would you rather finish top four all three seasons BUT win nothing, or finish mid-table all three seasons AND win the League Cup in one of the three?

Greg – Top four for financial reasons and then the trophies will follow Chuks – Top four

What do you think was the key moment in the 2024/25 season, the turning point maybe, which then set us eventually on track to success?

Greg – Eddie Howe’s tactics at the Emirates Chuks – Winning that trophy gave us the confidence and belief

If Newcastle United had ended up outside the Champions League places on the final day, would this last season have had a bit of failure attached to it?

Greg – No, I will never forget the celebrations when we won the League Cup. Could have finished mid-table and I would have been happy. Chuks – Yes top four takes priority

Which players do you think would be ideal (and realistic) signings this summer (don’t feel limited to only players who have been linked to Newcastle United in the media)?

Greg – I’ll let my son tell me Chuks – I wanted Ryan Cherki but Man City got him. We need a decent centre back and keeper. Gvardiol and Trafford.

Any Newcastle players you would be ok with leaving, that might surprise other NUFC fans (Including any where you think the money received for them and the extra PSR flexibility it would give, could then lead to an overall better team/squad)

Greg – I don’t want to lose any player. I do not get PSR. Chelsea and Man City seem to be able to do whatever they want. Don’t see why we are being denied the financial clout our owners could provide. Chuks – Joe Willock, Mat Targett, Sean Longstaff.
