  • Newcastle have set a £100M valuation including add-ons for Sandro Tonali
  • Man City are weighing a double midfield swoop this summer, with Nico Gonzalez departure expected
  • Tottenham also in the race for Tonali, who is under contract at Newcastle till 2029

Newcastle United have settled on a valuation in the region of £100 million, including add-ons, for Manchester City target Sandro Tonali this summer.

City have closely tracked Tonali’s situation at St. James’ Park for much of the season, with the Italy international long regarded as one of the most complete defensive midfielders in the Premier League under Eddie Howe.

That interest has intensified more recently, with City seriously considering a double midfield swoop for Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, rather than treating the Newcastle midfielder purely as a fallback option.

Tottenham enter transfer race with Man City and Arsenal for £100M Premier League midfielder

The picture has grown more competitive in recent weeks, with Tottenham entering the race under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, joining City, Arsenal and Manchester United in registering interest in the 25-year-old.

City’s broader midfield rebuild also remains tied to Rodri‘s contract uncertainty, with Hugo Viana‘s department balancing the pace of any Tonali deal against the Spaniard’s eventual decision on his own future at the Etihad Stadium.

Report: Newcastle’s £100M including add-ons price tag for Tonali

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle are looking for around £100 million, including add-ons, before sanctioning Tonali’s departure this summer.

The figure marks a shift in how Newcastle’s valuation has been framed compared with earlier reports, which had previously pegged the midfielder’s price at around €100 million without specifying an incentive-based structure built around add-ons.

Newcastle’s stance reflects their reluctance to lose a player who has become one of Howe’s most important figures in midfield, even with the club facing the prospect of a season without European football.

Where does this leave City’s midfield rebuild?

Anderson remains City’s primary target this summer, with personal terms already agreed and a third bid being prepared after Nottingham Forest rejected an offer worth £106 million plus £15 million in add-ons.

Manchester City seriously considering double swoop for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali

Adding Tonali on top would represent an extraordinary outlay even by City’s recent spending standards, with the two midfielders viewed by incoming Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca‘s coaching staff as complementary profiles rather than alternatives to one another.

Tottenham’s entry into the race, alongside the long-standing interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, means City cannot assume a straightforward path to Tonali even if director of football Hugo Viana decides to formalise an approach at Newcastle’s asking price.

Whether City ultimately pursue both deals in full, or prioritise Anderson and revisit Tonali at a later date, remains to be seen – but Newcastle’s clarity over their valuation at least gives City’s hierarchy a clearer number to work with as the summer progresses.
