Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany stating (see below) that this Newcastle United bid was turned down earlier today (Tuesday).

The Sky Sports Germany reporter saying that his information is that the rejection was mainly due to the ‘payment terms’ proposed by Newcastle United. Though in his report, Plettenberg says that Eintracht Frankfurt have already indicated they would be prepared to pay more than this £69.m opening offer from Newcastle.

With such a big expensive transfer, I don’t think a huge surprise that United’s first bid has been knocked back.

From the report, my reading of the situation is that Newcastle United might not be too far apart from what Eintracht Frankfurt are willing to accept.

As for supposedly other clubs having been prepared to pay more, I haven’t seen anything about actual formal written offers having been made by any of these rival clubs. As ever, talk is cheap, it is only when actual money is put on the table that you can take anything seriously.

Everything points towards negotiations continuing and you would assume further Newcastle United bid(s) for Hugo Ekitike to come.

‘According to exclusive information from Sky Sport, Eintracht Frankfurt is said to have rejected a written offer from Newcastle United in the amount of 80 million euros on Tuesday morning – mainly due to the payment terms, which SGE did not agree to.

At €80 million, Ekitike would already become the Magpies’ record transfer. Newcastle paid €70 million for former Dortmund player Alexander Isak in 2022/23. The Premier League club hasn’t paid more to date.

Eintracht Frankfurt ‘s sporting director Markus Krösche wants more, however. Some clubs have already indicated they would be willing to pay a higher sum. The poker game is on.
