Newcastle United are reportedly pushing to sign English midfielder Kyran Thompson after his Arsenal contract ended last week.
The Magpies want to strengthen their youth ranks with players capable of forcing their way into first-team manager Eddie Howe’s plans.
They attempted to bring Thompson to St James’ Park in 2024, but he chose to join Arsenal after leaving the West Ham United academy.
Newcastle are not guaranteed to sign the 16-year-old this summer, as Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation.
Arsenal pipped Spurs, Chelsea, Man City and Newcastle to Thompson two years ago and the Magpies will hope it is their turn to sign him.
However, he was unable to get guarantees of a pathway to the first team and has moved on after failing to sign a new deal.
It is unclear whether Newcastle can offer him what he wants, but talks are expected as they push to bring him to Tyneside.
Thompson is not the only youth player leaving Arsenal this summer, with Man City aiming to lure Mishel Nduka away from the club.
The Gunners offered the teenager improved terms, but he is currently out of contract and a move to Newcastle looks likely.
