Newcastle v Man Utd: Fernandes can shine again in 22/1 Bet Builder

Newcastle's up and down season continues. After three good wins on the road, they pushed Manchester City all the way in a 2-1 defeat and then set up a last-16 Champions League meeting with Barcelona after a 9-3 cruise against Qarabag in the playoffs.
But, in among all that, they've also lost their last three Premier League home games - a run they haven't suffered in eight years. Those losses were 0-2 v Aston Villa, 3-4 v Brentford and 2-3 v Everton. Eddie Howe will wonder how they got nothing from the last two.
"We worked so hard to get back in the game twice and then inexplicably really conceded straight after scoring twice, so desperately disappointing really," was his assessment after the Everton loss.
Having taken zero points out of nine from those three matches, Newcastle are now languishing in 13th rather than sniffing European places.
Manchester United's decision to axe Ruben Amorim and replace him with Michael Carrick as intermin boss couldn't have worked out better - so far at least.
After United came back from 1-0 down to beat Crystal Palace, Carrick has now banked 19 points out of 21. With Aston Villa slipping up at Wolves, the Red Devils are up to third place - a wild contrast to last season's 15th-place finish.
Not playing in Europe has certainly helped Carrick but this run is now so sustained that bumps in the road - conceding the first goal against West Ham and Crystal Palace - now cause no panic. Indeed, United have recovered nine points from losing positions in the Premier League in 2026, more than any other side.
Now to the next test - a trip to St James' Park where they've lost on their last three visits in the Premier League.
It's definitely worth noting that Man Utd - even taking into account the Amorim reign - have only been defeated in three Premier League away games this season. Only Arsenal have lost fewer on the road.
Wednesday 4 March, 8.15pm
Newcastle fans certainly aren't being short-changed in terms of watching elite football as the next two visitors after Man Utd are Man City and Barcelona.
Despite those recent losses, the atmosphere should be electric and, notably, the Magpies have only lost two of their last 20 home evening kick-offs (7pm or later) in the Premier League (W11 D7).
That bodes well but overall The Draw looks the most compelling result on Wednesday. While neither team has drawn many of late, both have been involved in lots of games decided by a single goal.
It's pretty easy to justify backing Bruno Fernandes to Assist based on his numbers this season.
The Portuguese playmaker has 13 (six more than anyone else) in 25 matches so his assist rate is slightly better than one in two.
His odds for another are 15/8 and that has to appeal with Newcastle shipping plenty of goals. The Magpies haven't managed a clean sheet in their last 11 outings while they've conceded 10 times in their last four home games in all competitions.
I'll make that the main bet here.
The other pro-Man Utd bet is an anytime scorer punt on Benjamin Sesko at 8/5. The giant Slovenian is thriving under Carrick and his winner at Everton last time made it seven goals in eight games.
A Bet Builder featuring a Sesko goal and a Fernandes assist pays around 4/1. If that were to happen in a draw, we're getting 22/1. And remember, the Betfair Sportsbook have a free bet offer all this week on Football, meaning if you place a £10 Bet Builder or Acca (minimum three legs) then you will receive a free £10 bet.
The Italian has three goals in his last five games and must wonder how it's not four in six. It would have been but for a 'worldie' save from Jordan Pickford in Newcastle's 3-2 defeat against Everton.
