Newcastle welcome Wolves to St James’ Park this evening looking to continue their brilliant run of form.

Eddie Howe’s side are seeking a ninth straight win in all competitions. The Magpies overcame fourth-tier Bromley to progress in the FA Cup at the weekend and are also in pole position to reach the Carabao Cup final. Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 in the first leg of their semi-final tie and are well positioned on three fronts this season.

Currently fifth in the Premier League table, Newcastle will climb into the Champions League places with a win tonight.

Wolves also progressed in the FA Cup at the weekend after winning 2-1 at Bristol City. It continued a largely productive start for new head coach Vitor Pereira. The Portuguese coach, who replaced Gary O’Neil last month, has taken seven points from his four league games.

However, defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out leaves Wolves precariously positioned just above the relegation places. Only goal difference – and one goal – separates Wolves from 18th-placed Ipswich.

Alexander Isak is expected to be passed fit after missing the weekend win against Bromley. Eddie Howe said he would take no risks with Newcastle’s leading scorer, who picked up a slight issue in the win at Arsenal earlier this month.

Harvey Barnes was forced off against Bromley and will miss out, though there’s confidence Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock will return after sitting out the FA Cup tie.

Callum Wilson, Nick Pope, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles remain on the sidelines.
