Juventus will have to do without Francisco Conceicao for their visit from Lazio in Serie A after the international break, but the Italian press have drawn comparisons to Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and his recently successful red-card appeal in the Premier League.

Conceicao was handed a one-match ban on Tuesday, following his dismissal during Juventus’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari over the weekend. He was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence in the 89th minute, when the referee adjudged him to have dived in the area.

The Porto loanee felt a hand on the back from Caglairi’s Adam Obert, but went down rather softly and was shown his second yellow card of the game.

Tuttosport reports that Juventus are unlikely to appeal the decision to suspend Conceicao for the next Serie A game even if vice-referee designator Andrea Gervasoni told DAZN on Sunday that it was wrong to give the Portuguese winger a second yellow card.

The paper suggests that Conceiçao’s international colleague, Bruno Fernandes, previously won an appeal against an unfair red card.

The Manchester United star was sent off after a straight red card in the Red Devils’ 3-0 loss at home to Tottenham, but the club successfully appealed and he was able to lead his team out in their following league match against Aston Villa.

Though the sending off incidents were different – one was for a supposedly dangerous foul, while the other was for simulation – the newspaper suggests Juventus should lodge an appeal even if the club are unlikely to follow the advice.
