Neymar sat out Santos’ Thursday session at Vila Belmiro, following a gym-based programme at CT Rei Pelé while Cuca led ball work for most of the squad.

According to Globo.com, after two consecutive matches at Vila Belmiro, the No 10 focused on conditioning ahead of Sunday’s Campeonato Brasileiro meeting with Fluminense at 16:00 Brasília time, in round 12.

The workout included a discussion between Cuca, the players and members of an organised supporters’ group, and brought a new concern as Rony missed out after feeling pain in his right ankle on Wednesday. He is being assessed daily and could be unavailable this weekend.

On the pitch, Cuca began tactical drills, with the starters back in ball work. Gabriel Menino also remained out, still with the physiotherapists for a right hamstring injury.

Santos return on Friday for double sessions, the morning open to the media, as they look to build momentum. Last weekend’s win over Atlético-MG took Cuca’s side to 13 points, three clear of the relegation zone. Fluminense are fourth with 20 points from 11 matches.
