Santos will be without Neymar and Rony for Sunday’s trip to Flamengo at the Maracanã in the 10th round of the Brasileirão, both suspended after bookings in the 2-0 win over Remo.

Rony was cautioned for a heavy foul, while Neymar was booked late following a clash with Remo’s Diego Hernández and then protested the decision by referee Savio Pereira Sampaio. According to Diario Do Peixe, Neymar later criticised the official, calling the caution unfair and accusing him of disrespecting players and seeking the spotlight.

The absences leave coach Cuca short in attack for the away fixture, and he may need to tweak the set-up, especially in creation and the front line.

Gabriel Barbosa could return from a muscle injury to cover Rony’s role and is viewed as the leading option if passed fit.

To fill Neymar’s position, Moisés, Gabriel Bontempo or Rollheiser are the alternatives, each able to operate between midfield and attack.

The victory over Remo lifted Santos to 10 points, took them out of the relegation zone and moved them up to 10th in the table.
