Neymar has been diagnosed with a grade II calf muscle injury, sidelining him for an estimated two to three weeks, a setback that worries Brazil ahead of the World Cup.

The federation confirmed the diagnosis via team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar at Brazil’s Teresópolis base, speaking before media sessions with Casemiro and Weverton.

Medical assessments completed yesterday included an MRI that identified a second degree fibre tear in the calf, not a simple oedema, following earlier checks.

If he recovers in the minimum two weeks, he would be cleared around 11 June and could rejoin training roughly 48 hours before Brazil’s opener on 13 June against Morocco.

Brazil’s second group match is scheduled for 19 June against Haiti. The forward is currently with Santos, and his inclusion in Carlo Ancelotti’s final squad was a notable surprise given he had not been called in any international window since the Italian took charge in May 2025.
