Nice are in discussions with Grégory Lorenzi to become sporting director, with Florian Maurice’s exit at the end of the season all but confirmed.

Nice-Matin reports that the 42-year-old has opened talks with the Ligue 1 club as they move to find a successor after two years of Maurice’s tenure.

A former centre-back, Lorenzi has served as Brest’s sporting director since 2016.

After 10 years at Stade Brestois, a historic Champions League qualification and several convincing seasons in Ligue 1, he will probably leave Finistère at the end of the campaign.

He fits the profile Nice are seeking, a well-connected operator able to deliver results with limited resources and keep a club competitive despite a reduced budget.

Everything points to Lorenzi taking on a new challenge this summer.
