Nico Schlotterbeck will miss Borussia Dortmund’s next two matches as he continues to deal with a muscle injury. The 26-year-old is out of Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to RB Leipzig and next Wednesday’s Champions League return leg at Atalanta Bergamo.

According to Get German Football News, the centre-back has been wearing the captain’s armband for BVB in recent games.

Dortmund have not conceded in the last two fixtures Schlotterbeck missed. A yellow-card accumulation ban ruled him out of Friday night’s league win over Mainz, then they shut out Atalanta at home on Tuesday, helped by an assured display from Italian defender Luca Reggiani.

Both victories were at home. Dortmund now face the Red Bull Arena test against Leipzig, and, despite leading 2-0 on aggregate, an awkward trip to the Stadio de Bergamo next week.

Schlotterbeck has expressed strong enthusiasm for the Bundesliga meeting with Bayern Munich at the end of the month. Bayern must visit the Westfalen Stadion and the famed Yellow Wall, with 81,365 in attendance. It is assumed Dortmund will not take unnecessary risks with their defensive leader, aiming to keep him fresh for that clash.
